Sitting side-saddle

Outstanding half-plate ambrotype of a woman riding side-saddle on her horse.  Dressed in her finest riding attire she holds a riding crop off to the side of the horse and her long flowing dress hangs slightly below her companion’s belly creating a most unusual effect.  She is obviously quite comfortable and we assume she rides as often as possible.  While we see a number of men on horseback it is rare to find earlier images of women riding, especially one this size.  The ambrotype is in excellent condition with extremely nice tones and contrast.  There is some light green tinting to the grass and a touch of pink hue to her face.  The image is housed in a nice full case with a floral design.  The hinge has been repaired.  Don’t miss this opportunity as it might be sometime before another example this nice becomes available!
