Mother & chlid

Cute sixth-plate daguerreotype of a mother and her child. This itinerant plate has a certain folk art quality as evidenced by the unknown clutter in the background. Mounted atop a board leaning against the wall appears to be either the top of a headrest or a hanger for a coat. When the mat was removed there was another partially visible object that looks like it could be the child’s stroller. While mom isn’t smiling, she does seem quite happy. She wears a simple but attractive dress with a light blue/green tinted lace bow, a gilded pin and a hair comb. The baby wears a light pink necklace and a gold pin. He or she squirmed slightly as the facial focus is somewhat soft. The plate was heavily tarnished and benefitted from a light electrolytic cleaning. There is still a hint of tarnish on the perimeter. The image is in very good condition with a couple of small mat marks at the top perimeter. It has been resealed with a new glass and is housed in half of a leather case with no preserver. $45
