Alaska mission trip

Fascinating, rare, multiple-image cabinet card from Chicago of an Alaskan Mission trip.  We see nine Caucasian portraits, three of which appear to be ministers, along with two Alaskan photographs: one is of a group of native Alaskan men and the other is of the top halves of two totem-poles.  The small circular photo on the right is strangely enough a scene with a number of black men and boys along with one white male standing in front of a house.  We are not sure of the significance of this image although the population of African Americans in Alaska was increasing during the late 19th century.  This could also be a trip down South by the group.  We have found a number of missions to Alaska from Chicago by Christian groups in the late 1800’s, but we have not identified this particular trip.  The writing on the card reads, Alaska Missioner.  The photograph is in excellent condition and is identified to E. G. Roadleeng, 95 E. Chicago Ave., Chicago.
