St. Louis Tornado

Sad, warm toned photograph of damage done during a tornado in St. Louis on May 27, 1896. The scene is identified in ink on the mount as B Street and Douglas school in the distance. We see a great deal of destruction to the buildings and wagons, with men scattered throughout the image. A large pile of wheel frames and horseshoes are seen in the foreground. This is a historical image with some light fading on the perimeter and large chip of the mount on the bottom right. By Shields, 208 Coll. Ave E., St. Louis, it measures 7 ½” x 9 ½”, with the mount being 10” x 12.”
