Glamour Shots
Lovely photomontage by J.A. Scholten, St. Louis. This is a front piece from The Philadelphia Photographer, December 1883. Ten photographs of glamorous young women are portrayed in various forms of dress. Most appear to be models and actresses in outfits range from extremely formal to a fairy with wings to a riding outfit. According to Craig’s Registry, Scholten was listed as a daguerreotypist in St. Louis, 1859-1860. One source had Gustav Cramer working at Scholten’s studio. Cramer went on to manufacture the first dry plates in the US. The image is in excellent condition with one extremely minor teat in the top border of the mount. It measures 5 15/16” x 9 3/8.” $25
