Our Spring 2024 auction is closed!

Thank you to all who helped make it a success.

On this 25th anniversary of our first auction, we would like to thank all of our customers who have participated over the years. We began, in 1999, by offering a printed catalog and taking bids by smoke signal (landline telephones) and have shifted with the times and technology to online catalogs with bidding by email, text and phone. Yet our small auction format has remained constant, and we have resisted the urge to automate bidding so that we can continue to connect with our clients on a personal level when possible. We have strived to offer selections for everyone and to encourage new collectors.

We are the only small auction that does not charge a buyer's premium and our shipping costs are determed solely by the US Postal Service and UPS. It has been important to us to keep it simple and hope our customers have appreciated that effort.

It has been a pleasure meeting and connecting with a wide variety of people over the years and we hope to continue well into the future. We look forward to supporting your collecting endeavors and to promoting early photography to the next generation.

Hope to see you in Houston, October 17-20, for the Daguerreian Society's Annual Symposium

For almost 30 years Capitol Gallery has offered a comprehensive range of 19th century photographic fine art and related ephemera through our annual spring and fall auctions and year round in the gallery. We specialize in daguerreotypes, ambrotypes and tintypes, and a diverse selection of paper photography including CDVs, cabinet cards, albumen and gelatin silver prints, by American, English and European photographers. We also offer one of the finest selections of thermoplastic frames and cases.
